Levine

Age: 33

Family: None

Highest Education: 4 years college - Bachelor of Music

Year started business: 1993

Type of business: In his work with MarketingExperts.com, Levine and his copywriters outperform "control letters" for Web and direct mail clients such as Mypoints and Corey Rudl. In his work with AbbeysVegetarianRecipes.com, he offers free ad rewrites to advertisers who sponsor Abbey Levine's "vegetarian recipe of the week" (an online newsletter with 8,000+ health-conscious subscribers).

Market: For MarketingExperts.com, businesses who want to generate more leads or sales through Web or direct mail marketing. For AbbeysVegetarianRecipes.com, entrepreneurs and businesses who sell health-related products and services.

Number of employees: None, but subcontract a lot of work.

Best month (gross revenues): $21,378

Hours worked per week during start-up: “During our start-up phase - when I was focused on network marketing - I was working 25 hours per week for a telemarketing firm. That was my ‘day job’. I had Wednesdays off, so I spent all day every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday building my business, not to mention most of the other 4 evenings.”

Hours worked per week now: 35-40

Favorite business magazines: Marty Chenard's newsletter, Advanced Direct Marketing. Tom Schreiter's newsletter, Big Al's Recruiting Newsletter. Jonathan Mizel's newsletter, The Online Marketing Letter.

Favorite business books and authors: Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is the best book I've ever read.

Relaxes by: Taking hot baths and occasionally spending time in the woods - away from civilization. He also cooks occasionally (Hearty soups being his specialty.); “It’s meditative for me,”

Keeps in shape physically by: Working out at a gym twice a week.

Favorite part of job: “Schmoozing with other really bright entrepreneurs people who are on the cutting edge. And, writing killer ad copy.”

Least favorite part of job: Dealing with the mundane administrative stuff.

Companies admired: “Among network marketing companies, I most admire Cell Tech. So many 'health oriented' network marketing companies espouse health, but when you go to their conventions, they serve you with the kind of typical-American-diet food that causes arthritis, heart disease, stroke, and cancer. They're promoting a quick fix, not the genuine solution. Cell Tech is one of a very small handful of network marketing companies whose values are in alignment with its stated mission. One of the only companies that promotes a healthy, plant-based diet.”

Favorite quotes:

“Without a dream, there's no reason to practice. Without practice, there's no reason to dream.” (I saw this on the back of a shirt.)

Writer and Musician Turns Entrepreneur
BY JAN WALLEN

Trevor Levine wanted freedom - the freedom of not having to worry about an income; the freedom of time to pursue his passion for writing and for music. He found this freedom by creating a residual income through Network Marketing. And he is no slouch when it comes to his entrepreneurial efforts either.

He was featured in the 1997 "Who's Who of Professionals." In addition to his main entrepreneurial efforts, he is also an executive Consultant with an ancillary company that helps network marketers with qualified leads and ongoing training. He attended Randy Gage's first-ever MLM/Network Marketing Boot Camp.

Although it took him 16 months to begin making a profit, today he enjoys the benefits of a residual income. He has all the time he wants to write and to perform music. He lists other benefits such as not having to answer to anyone, no alarm clocks, and working when he wants to.

The person who most influenced the development of his values was his mother. "She also bought me a piano when I was 10. That was the start of my involvement with music."

Trevor says he has three heroes. The first is Stephen Covey. "Since reading The Seven Habits, I've looked to him as an extremely wise person. He possesses and is able to convey what it takes to lead a successful life."

Another influence for Trevor is Tom Schreiter. "Not only is Tom one of the savviest marketers I know, but he's also a very giving man who's always made himself available to offer me advice - even when I was, relatively speaking, a 'nobody.'"

His third hero is Jonathon Mizel. "Jonathon, too, has been a mentor to me. As I honed my ad writing skills, he'd critique my ads and sales letters, and fill me in on the 'inside secrets' of writing ad copy. There's one other thing I like about Jonathon. He really ENJOYS being an entrepreneur. Whenever I call him, he sounds like he is having a great time."

Trevor is also a person who enjoys what he does. He says that even with a residual income in place he continues to work 35 to 40 hours per week. Time, money and a passion - Trevor now has the freedom to pursue his interests as he wishes. He is an inspiration for entrepreneurs everywhere.
