Father Was Inspiration
By GERY CARSON
For Robert Blackman, it was dad who served as the inspiration for entering business. My Father was the president of a continuous forms business in Bartlesville, Oklahoma called Central States Business Forms. At age 58 he took early retirement and started a quick-print franchise. At the time I was 18. It really impressed me that dad was willing to start over at age 58 because he was tired of all the corporate politics. He left a $75,000 a year job in 1980 (which was big back then) and started over.
Robert had grown up in his dads manufacturing plan. At age 25, it was time to follow his lead and start his own business. And as if to prove the value of his upbringing, Robert turned a profit in his very first month and has never looked back.
Like most entrepreneurs, the reward is freedom. Some days I dont work at all. Other days I work 18 hours straight. It just depends on how I feel, says Robert. Being able to write his own paycheck ranks high, too. The only limit to the amount of money I make is up to me! I love getting up in the morning and being in complete control of my financial destiny. ![]()
